The Paint Colors I Keep Coming Back To

Cozy neutrals never really go out of style in my homes, but picking the right one can feel impossible. Below are the paint colors I’ve used in my own homes and rentals, with where I used each one and what makes it work.

If you are looking to try paint samples in your home which I ALWAYS recommend I use a service called Samplize where you can order hand painted, larger peel and stick paint samples to put on your wall. It makes a huge difference over the tiny paint swatches. I tape my samples to the wall since I reuse them with all the renovations we do.

Smokey Taupe (Benjamin Moore)

A light to medium greige, but warmer than most greiges, leaning closer to brown. It’s the standard color in our last house’s kitchen, and it’s a great pick if you want something warm and grounded without going yellow.

Where I used it: Kitchen cabinets

Decorator’s White (Benjamin Moore)

A more stark white. Decorator’s White is cooler without having blue understones, and zero yellowing, this is my go-to basic white for trim

Where I used it: All trim and walls in our Gulf Bridge Rental.

Natural Cream (Benjamin Moore)

I’d call this beige. I chose it for the doors in our current home to give a hint of contrast with so much white on the walls and trim..

Where I used it: Doors

Classic Gray (Benjamin Moore)

It’s a warm, light neutral that looks almost white in bright light. The name is a little misleading, but compared to a warmer white, you can see why people call it a greige.

Where I used it: The exterior of our previous home.

White Duck (Sherwin-Williams)

A warmer white that pairs well with a natural white oak island. It’s the cabinet color in our current kitchen and first floor bathrooms and I love it.

Where I used it: Kitchen cabinets

Alabaster (Sherwin-Williams)

A soft, bright white that works well in a large bathroom vanity without feeling stark.Has slight yellow undertones when next to stark white.

Where I used it: The walls in our current home

Dune White (Benjamin Moore)

A warm but not yellow white. It’s the main color throughout our lakeside rental and the 30A Bachelorette House, and it’s named after one of my dogs, so it was a sign.

Where I used it: On the walls and trim in 30A Unplugged and The Bachelorette House

Sea Salt (Sherwin-Williams)

This is a light blue green that I have seen in several laundry rooms and used to brighten up the guest space in our home.

Where I used it: Kitchen cabinets in our carriage house.
