We recently completed another short-term rental renovation, this time a little different from the usual beachside location. The way I approached the renovation didn’t change much, but the type of guest we designed it for did.

30A Unplugged was created to be a digital detox house. No TV. No Wi-Fi. Just intentional living, deeper connection, and the freedom to be present.

While I created this with families like mine in mind who value time unplugged, I also imagined it as a space where someone might host a small retreat. A place where the focus is slowing down, reconnecting, and spending real time together.

You might recognize this sofa! These are my favorite slipcover sofas. We have them in our personal home as well. This is the fabric oatmeal basket weave slub.

What made this the ideal house for that?

The location.

This home sits on a quiet lot and backs up to one of the rare Coastal Dune Lakes here on 30A. These lakes connect to the Gulf, creating a unique mix of fresh and salt water. Because of that, they’re incredible for fishing and paddleboarding, which we made sure to set up for our guests.

Like all Stay on 30A rentals, the house is also stocked with bikes so you can easily explore the area.

And maybe the biggest flex of the property: an infrared sauna, because if you’re going to unplug, you might as well lean all the way into the self-care part.

The Renovation

One of the biggest structural changes we made was enclosing the upper front porch that faced the road. By closing it in, we were able to create an additional bedroom and create square footage at a lower price than market value..

The back of the house originally had no lake views (gasp), so I rearranged the kitchen and primary bedroom on the first floor to make sure we could take advantage of the setting.

We took this home down to the studs throughout…so it was a bigger renovation project than just paint and floors. I am really happy with how it turned out. The main paint color I chose throughout the home is called “Dune White”. It’s a warm but not yellow white. One of my dog’s is named Dune, so it was a sign!
