If you’re trying to trim down your closet or clothing budget then today’s Spring capsule wardrobe for moms is a post worth reading.   I say for moms but really it’s what many would consider Spring weekend outfits.  As a mom I don’t get dressed up very often so my everyday style is weekend wear!

The idea of a capsule wardrobe is to group versatile, basic wardrobe pieces that can be restyled in many outfit combinations.  Nordstrom has closet staples in everyone’s budget so all of the pieces I’m sharing today are shoppable on the same site!  I tried to pick quality pieces that wouldn’t break the bank in case you’re just getting started with the concept.  I included my sizes on each item (I generally wear XS or small in tops and size 2/26 in jeans) but Nordstrom also offers helpful sizing guides for each item on their site!

First – Declutter Your Current Closet

In order to easily access your favorite wardrobe staples you need to clear out the clutter.   There are so many ways to do this, but I like to set aside a few hours at a time rather than just dive in all at once.    TRY ON any items in question.   If you haven’t worn something in the last year, there’s probably a mental block that’s keeping you from getting rid of the item.   Did you splurge on a sweater you didn’t end up loving?   For me that makes it harder to let go!   But do it – it clears up space for pieces you do love.

Donate or sell the clothes you don’t love.   I have a charity closet sale on my blog’s Facebook page if you want to shop what leaves its home in my closet.

Use Pinterest To Be Inspired and Organized

I use Pinterest all the time for outfit inspiration (you can follow me on Pinterest if you do the same).   I group my outfits seasonally since I almost always wear casual outfits.   You might add additional outfit groups such as “Holiday Style”, “Party Style” or “Work Wear” depending on what occasions you dress for.

Look at your boards and pick up on patterns.  Mine are full of denim and restyled basics.   I am a t-shirt lover but I like to restyle my most versatile tees with vests, over bralettes, or by knotting them.     What basic pieces show up on your seasonal boards over and over?   While I love and wear boyfriend jeans, I wear skinny jeans more often….so if I had to pick a favorite I consider my skinny jeans more essential.   There are no rules, so it’s not like you can’t have boyfriend jeans, but today’s post is about restyling my best Spring basics.

Make A Shopping List

I find I have to make written list.   For some reason I cannot tackle things the same way with a mental or electronic list.  I am most effective putting pen to paper.

Make a list of 4-5 items you consider essential from each of these categories:

• Tops
• Bottoms (include dresses here)
• Shoes
• Accessories

Feel free to add more to certain categories based on your lifestyle, but shoot for pieces that can be styled several ways.

Free People Intimately FP Adella Longline Bralette  – I am bralette obsessed and this one is my number 1 pick.   I have it in 4 colors in size small.   I did an entire post on bralette styling tips if you’re interested.
Steve Madden Stecy Sandal  these are the perfect nude sandals to take any outfit from day to night.   I size up a half size in these.
Treasure & Bond Canvas Baseball Cap  perfect to throw on when you can’t muster the mental strength to wash your hair.
Polaroid 59mm Polarized Sunglasses  these are similar to the sunglasses I am wearing.
BaubleBar Aimee Y-Choker  I wear this necklace more than any other necklace I own.   People always ask about it.  It’s simple but makes a statement.

Converse Chuck Taylor(R) ‘Shoreline’ Sneaker  I just LOVE my white Chucks and they wash surprisingly well.
FitFlop Halo Sandal   These are new to me – my mom insists FitFlops are the most comfortable sandals so I am giving them a go for Spring.
Rebecca Minkoff Slim Regan Leather Hobo  I had been searching for a bag that converts from shoulder to crossbody in this neutral color.   This bag was a bit of a splurge for me, but I had been looking for so long and knew I’d use it everyday so I’m glad I grabbed it.  When I’m with my kids I wear this as a crossbody, out to dinner I wear it as a shoulder bag.

PANTS

Caslon(R) Linen Jogger Pants  I’m wearing XS in Olive.  These are so cute for travel or with heels on date night.   Size down if between.
Articles of Society Sarah Skinny Jeans  These jeans have a LOT of stretch but don’t get too baggy.   I have them in my usual size but if you’re between sizes I’d size down.   These jeans are a lower rise than I normally wear so if you like a high rise skinny jean consider these Madewell jeans.
Topshop Jamie High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans   These jeans run small.  I sized up to the next size above what I normally wear.   They’re ankle jeans – I am 5’11” so they hit me above the ankle.

Levi’s(R) Four-Pocket Military Jacket  Wearing XS, a utility jacket is a 3 season piece for me!
Caslon(R) Textured Cardigan  Wearing XS, this cardigan also comes in pink and gray.
Lush Hailey Crepe Dress  This basic dress can be styled SO MANY ways and comes in lots of colors.
Madewell Classic Ex-Boyfriend Chambray Shirt  This top is similar to the Caslon shirt I am wearing that sold out.
BP. Button Front Camisole  The perfect cami – can be worn day or night.  The straps are adjustable in length.
Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee  I went with the size small (I’m usually XS or small) because I knew I’d want to knot this tee.
Olivia Moon Gibson Tie Sleeve Knit Blazer  Wearing size XS – this is THE COMFIEST blazer.   Feels frumpy because it’s a sweatshirt but looks chic.
Lush Raw Edge Side Slit Tee  a great basic tee – I’m wearing XS.
