Hi friends! Today I’m back with an updated capsule wardrobe for fall. For those who are new to the series, I put together a capsule wardrobe prior to each season. You can see previous capsule wardrobes here. If you’re familiar then you probably just want to get to the goodies so feel free to just skip over the next paragraph! All of the piece I selected are from Nordstrom. I love that they’re a one stop shop for the entire capsule collection.
“Capsule Wardrobe: a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don’t go out of fashion, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces.“
The purpose of a capsule wardrobe is to be strategic in buying basic pieces that can easily be mixed and matched. The idea is less is more and it helps to eliminate trying on 10 different outfits in the morning before settling with one. The pieces from this capsule can be worn for a mix of occasions including: everyday casual, business casual and athleisure.
All of the pieces in the fall capsule wardrobe are super versatile but I wanted to highlight a few outfit ideas with the utility jacket to help get you inspired.
The Madewell olive green surplus jacket is a piece you can wear beyond the fall and for years to come. I did want to mention that I’m 5’11” so the sleeves on this jacket are just a tad short on me. I normally cuff my jackets so this didn’t bother me, but if you have long arms I wanted to give you a heads up.
I typically don’t splurge on many closet pieces but I make exceptions for basics I know I will get a lot of wear out of, such as the utility jacket. Another investment-worthy jacket is the BLANKNYC suede moto jacket that I have in multiple colors. The quality is great and the style is timeless. In my opinion, both are worth the price tag. I have size XS in the utility jacket and small in the Moto Jacket (I’d recommend sizing up if between on that one).
This tote bag is sooo durable and not to mention it’s reversible and comes with a matching wristlet. I’ve used mine almost daily for about a year now and it’s practically looks new. It’s very roomy and makes for a nice “throw everything you need into bag”.
I’m a huge fan of camo and believe every wardrobe needs at least one pair of comfortable leggings to lounge around the house or to run a quick errand in. These Spanx camo leggings aren’t as constricting as some other pairs of Spanx so they’re great for all day wear. The hat I didn’t include in the collage, but it’s definitely a good staple piece if you’re a hat person. (The washed black color I’m wearing is sold out right now, but keep checking back for restocks!)
I paired the camo leggings with this tunic sweater (a great basic by the way!) layered underneath the jacket, but you could also pair the leggings with this cozy poncho.
Another variation of this outfit you could do would be to switch out the booties for the tall boots or converse sneakers. You could also replace the utility jacket with the moto jacket or long cardigan. Or maybe even switch out the chambray top with the plaid button down. I could go on, but see where I’m going? There are SO many outfit combinations when you pick out the right pieces for your capsule wardrobe.
