Sharing the scoop on what I keep in mind when pairing neutral pillows. One underestimated piece, in my opinion, is the pillow inserts! Don’t miss my pro-tip for that at the bottom of the post! Thank you to Wayfair for partnering with me on this post.
1. Mix Textures: Combine different textures like linen, chunky knit, and cotton blend to add depth and interest. This creates a cozy, layered look while keeping the palette cohesive.
In this combo I love the chunky knit on this pillow in the back, perfect for fall and winter. The front textured pillow is a great one to keep in the rotation all year round!
2. Vary Shapes and Sizes: I like to pair two different sizes in the corner of my sofa. I also love mix in an oblong size, especially on a bed! I also ordered this oblong pillow but still waiting for it to come in.
In this pairing I did two different size pillows. I like the added depth and that I can see bits of both. You can shop the back striped pillow here and the front textured pillow here.
3. Play with Patterns: Incorporate subtle patterns, like stripes or geometric designs, alongside a textured solid pillow. This adds a little bit of personality!
You know I don’t get crazy with color but I do like to add a little personality when I can. Here I did a geometric pattern like this pillow. Here is the pillow in the front.

Lastly, don’t forget what a difference pillow inserts make! I have had plenty from other retailers that the feathers poke through, that’s a no for me! What I love about all the pillows I shared here is that you can get the inserts WITH the pillow. I have been happy with both the quality of the pillow covers and their inserts. Wayfair really figured it out what we needed! Any links are paid/affiliate links, thank you for supporting me!
