All of the holiday parties I’ve attended in the last few years have been very adult.  It doesn’t take much to please me – food and drinks are plenty.  I used to put in a lot more effort and it made the parties a lot more memorable.   In my 20’s I used to host a sexy Santa themed holiday party and I was usually one of the few people who dressed up.   The parties were a lot more fun than just eating and having a couple glasses of wine.

What is an après ski holiday theme party?

So I have to admit that I just learned this fancy new term “après ski”.   Apparently this refers to the after party that goes down when snow bunnies finish on the slopes.  I am unathletic so I’m more into cocktail sipping than skiing anyway.  Even better to sip cocktails with friends in a cozy lodge-like setting.

To host an après ski holiday theme party here are some things you might want to include:

1. Hot cocoa bar (consider including Bailey’s for an adult-only version).
2. Fondue
3. Cozy fireplace seating
4. Faux animal mounts
5. Smores
6. Add lights to anything that doesn’t move
7. Leggings with sweaters

Preparing for my ski lodge holiday theme party…

I added flannel to my breakfast nook to give it a cozy, lodge-like feel.

Faux animal head mounts make me think of a ski lodge.   Around the holidays I like to add lights to any stationary decor.

Wouldn’t it be nice to go to a party where you could wear slippers instead of heels?

We actually have a firepit in our backyard but that would have involved taking my slippers off so I’m roasting marshmallows in the fireplace.   I checked online and it’s fine to roast marshmallows over a gas fireplace.    Does that change your life?   I’m not letting my kids in on this info.

SHOP MY OUTFIT

I am wearing size small in the sweater tunic.  It’s definitely something you can wear for lounging or outside the house (see below).   If you don’t have fleece lined slipper socks you MUST get some if you live in a cold climate.    This pair is under $20 and has non-slip skids on the bottom.
