June is a crazy month for us. We have more than a dozen gatherings in addition to Father’s Day celebrations with our own dads so we opted to celebrate Chris early this year. Two weeks ago we took the kids about an hour away from home to Westbrook, Connecticut to spend a couple days at the beach. The weather was a bit cool but we had a great time being together. We also saved a lot of money going in May vs. June.
I wanted to share some exciting news that many of my real world friends already know, but I haven’t shared yet with my virtual crew! Chris is going to be stepping back from his family’s car business to be my right hand man at home. I mean, in reality he already is, but this will free up more of his time.
Currently I have an assistant, Haley, (who we adore) that helps me with the kids and some blog related errands/tasks during the week. In the Fall she is leaving to attend an accelerated nursing program in Pennsylvania. Without her help I would be even more scattered than I currently am! So Chris will be taking over a lot of the things Haley does and playing full-time Instagram husband.
I never expected our lives to go in the direction they are right now. It wasn’t even 3 years ago I felt completely disconnected from my husband while he was in the grips of addiction. My marriage was so lonely and I could never have pictured the type of support that allowed me to pick up blogging as a hobby and then turn it into a career.
Chris and I have very different work habits so we are sure to drive each other a bit nutty, but I feel so grateful we are getting this opportunity. It will be an exercise in balance. His parents have been extremely supportive of his desire to take on more of a role at home. My mother-in-law was what I would consider the typical stay at home mom. She is an expert at domestic tasks like cooking, ironing, cleaning, etc. Chris can actually make a better bed than me! Perhaps you’ve noticed on my Instagram stories we have been working to improve his cooking skills. While Chris will be working with me on my blogging tasks, this will be a side job to his number one roll – Dad!! He’s so good with the kids they are over the moon to know he’s going to be home even more in the coming months.
So at the end of the Summer you will see even more of Chris and I teasing each other back and forth online. I am so grateful for all of you who have supported me in this adventure and made this move possible. Should the blogging bubble burst – we both have careers we can slide back into, but for now – we will enjoy this adventure while it lasts.
Hope you get to celebrate this weekend with the dads in your life!!!
XOXO,
Rach
